Internal BAE event: Knowledge Sharing Sessions on Environmental Education

A BAE member, Lidia Millan Fernandez, led two sessions on environmental education to share knowledge and build capacity in the BAE team. We learned about the importance of environmental education, how to create safe learning environments, about diverse educational approaches. We delved into external and internal factors to consider when organising a workshop. We created plans for our own activities, got feedback and exchanged ideas around them. Finally, we explored creative examples from activities that Lidia has been part of in Spain.

BAE co-organised an expert panel on the synergies and interactions between the COP16 on biodiversity and COP29 on climate change, focusing on youth positions and representation in the international conferences' negotiations.​

BAE co-organised an expert panel on the NRL. The event provided a clear breakdown of the law’s structure, content, and impact. We covered the negotiation process, analyzed the final text, and discussed key legal obligations for EU countries. Through a practical example, we also explored how this law will specifically affect biodiversity and rewilding efforts.​

COP 16 in Cali, Colombia

Rasara Nandasena, a BAE member and GYBN youth representative, joined the GYBN advocacy team in the COP16 in Colombia. Known as the Biodiversity or CBD COP, this conference focused on the implementation and progress of the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework adopted at COP15 in Montreal, Canada. Rasara was selected as a representative of GYBN Sri Lanka and her participation was fully funded by the Global Youth Biodiversity Network.​

BAE team met in Brussels for team building and planning the coming year. We reflected about our structure, aims and purpose. We streamlined our next projects and events, and we brainstormed about new topics that concern all of us and our partner organisations working towards protecting biodiversity. We also discovered part of the beautiful biodiversity in Brussels.​

Attendees explored the forest's rich ecosystems through group activities such as insect observation, plant identification, and bird spotting. Columba Martinez - a BAE member - participated in the Kunming-Montreal Convention on Biological Diversity aligning with COP 15 as part of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) delegation. Youth representatives joined forces to advocate for stronger biodiversity conservation measures.

BAE played a key role in the Green Track Campaign, working alongside GYBN and GOPA to engage youth in biodiversity conservation across the EU.
